ROC and ground-vehicle mining
Fit the vehicle, identify the right deposits and bring the load home.
Fit the vehicle, identify the right deposits and bring the load home.
Retrieve the carrier and vehicle while you are still near services. Load slowly, shut the ramp and make sure you can exit the driver’s seat and walk out. SCU capacity alone does not prove a vehicle fits.
The ROC-DS has separate driving and mining positions, and its operator has environmental exposure. A solo player must change seats. The smaller ROC keeps its single operator’s workflow simpler.
At a safe vehicle retrieval location, retrieve the ROC and carrier. Drive up the ramp slowly, stop inside, exit the seat and walk to the ship exit before attempting a mining trip.
The ramp closes, the vehicle fits, and you can still reach the cockpit and leave the ship.
If the wheels, roof or exit route snag, use another carrier. A high SCU rating describes freight capacity, not the doorway shape.

At a safe vehicle retrieval location, retrieve the ROC and carrier. Drive up the ramp slowly, stop inside, exit the seat and walk to the ship exit before attempting a mining trip.
Expected result: The ramp closes, the vehicle fits, and you can still reach the cockpit and leave the ship.
If it did not work: If the wheels, roof or exit route snag, use another carrier. A high SCU rating describes freight capacity, not the doorway shape.
The ROC is a single-operator vehicle. The ROC-DS separates its enclosed driver from the mining operator, whose seat is exposed. Two seats do not mean two people can both mine, and a solo ROC-DS session involves moving between jobs.
With the vehicle stationary, exit the driver position and enter the mining operator seat on a ROC-DS. Point out the mining controls, then return to the driver without moving the carrier.
Expected result: You know the route between driving and mining before doing it beside a deposit.
If it did not work: If the suit is unsuitable for conditions outside the cab, stay in safety and change equipment. An enclosed driver seat does not protect the exposed operator.
Our two-player routine is: driver says parked; miner confirms target and starts; miner says beam stopped; driver then repositions. Practise those calls once before working.
Expected result: The driver does not move the arm while the miner is concentrating on energy control.
If it did not work: If either person loses sight of the target, call stop and reassess. Moving closer mid-fracture changes the setup the miner was controlling.
The 4.1 mining update introduced separate vehicle deposits, including Beradon, Glacosite and Feynmaline. Do not use an old guide’s hand-gem list as proof that the ROC can collect every deposit.
Park the carrier with an accessible ramp and a clear return path. Check the vehicle’s mining head and its description before relying on a new attachment.
Stop the vehicle facing a suitable small mining deposit. Enter mining mode and point the mining arm at it. In the ROC-DS, first occupy the separate mining station.
Expected result: Mining analysis appears from the operator station, with a target the vehicle can work.
If it did not work: No mining controls in the ROC-DS driver seat is a station issue. Park safely and change seats; do not troubleshoot by driving into the rock.
Identify laser power, rock energy and fracture progress separately. Power is your setting. Energy is the deposit response. Fracture progress is the result you want. A high power value by itself says nothing about success.
From the mining station, start on a suitable deposit and increase power a little. Wait to see the energy response. Reduce as it approaches the useful band; keep corrections small while fracture advances.
Expected result: The progress indicator advances without energy continuing into the danger region.
If it did not work: If the vehicle or aim moves, stop and re-establish position. Reusing the old setting after a distance change can produce a different result.
Switch the vehicle mining function to extraction and read the mode label. Collect one fragment, then inspect the storage change before sweeping the rest.
Expected result: You have verified collection with the vehicle you are operating.
If it did not work: If material does not increase, check that the fragment is collectable and storage is available. More fracture power will not fix a full cargo store.
Field note: If an input differs, open Options > Keybindings, select your actual device, then Advanced Controls Customization. Find the named mining, salvage or tool action. Keep your working custom profile; resetting every binding is unnecessary.
Approach within the tool’s indicated useful range. Scan, fracture and collect as separate operations, checking storage after each. Compare charge response before increasing power again.
Suggested crew split: one person operates the vehicle while the carrier pilot scouts the next nearby deposit and watches for approaching contacts. Agree a pickup point before separating.
Read the mode label, start the beam and increase power in small wheel movements. Watch rock energy rather than treating laser power as progress.
Expected result: Energy reaches the useful window and fracture progresses while you hold it there.
If it did not work: Stop the beam if energy climbs into danger. An unsuitable or unstable deposit can be left for better equipment.
When the deposit has broken, change mining mode. Confirm the extraction label, then fire at collectable fragments and monitor the vehicle storage.
Expected result: The extraction effect collects fragments and the storage quantity rises.
If it did not work: Check that you switched modes, aimed at a collectable fragment and have storage room before moving the vehicle.
Stop the beam, drive back to the carrier and repeat the loading route slowly. Check that the recovered resources remain in the intended vehicle storage.
Expected result: Vehicle, operator and collected material are all aboard the transport.
If it did not work: Do not abandon the ROC merely because the carrier is full of people or loose boxes. Clear the loading route before departure.
Our first ROC trip ends early enough to rehearse the entire return. Keep the actual material visible in the vehicle storage and determine how your chosen buyer accesses it. Do not assume every terminal can read a vehicle inside another ship.
Stop the mining tool, bring the vehicle to the agreed pickup and load using the route tested earlier. Ask a friend to watch clearance rather than stand in front of the wheels.
Expected result: The vehicle, recovered material and both players are aboard with the ramp closed.
If it did not work: If the ramp is obstructed or terrain prevents loading, move the empty carrier to better ground before risking a loaded vehicle.
At the destination inspect the buyer storage selector for the resource. If the vehicle store is not offered, use the supported inventory transfer to an accessible container or location and verify the sample appears before selling.
Expected result: The buyer lists your exact resource and the intended quantity.
If it did not work: Do not claim or abandon the vehicle to force a refresh. First identify where the resource is, then solve access to that inventory.
The carrier fits the vehicle but I cannot get back into it.: Move loose cargo and check the seat access path. Repeat the loading rehearsal before the next trip; volume capacity does not describe walkable clearance.
The ROC-DS driver has no mining controls.: Stop and use the separate operator position. With a friend, assign driving and mining explicitly.
The deposit seems wrong for the vehicle.: Read the tool analysis and use the current vehicle resource set. Hand-gem routes from older patches can be misleading.
Terrain, ramp angles and suit exposure can turn a short run into a recovery job. Perform the loading test with the same carrier variant you will actually use.
A larger mining head is not a universal upgrade: read its power, stability and window tradeoffs. Change one part at a time so you can tell what helped.
