Compare quantum drives: Atlas or Beacon?
Read spool, cooldown, source speed and fuel parameters without guessing your ship’s range.
Read spool, cooldown, source speed and fuel parameters without guessing your ship’s range.
The comparison uses individually captured community game-data records for 4.10.2-LIVE.12881860, captured 15 October 2026. These are extracted parameters, not CIG performance promises or an SC Nomads gameplay test. Equal item size does not establish that either fits your ship, mount or current loadout.
Atlas and Beacon are size-1 records. A quantum drive supports travel within a system; this comparison does not establish jump-point equipment or inter-system capability.

Atlas and Beacon are size-1 records. A quantum drive supports travel within a system; this comparison does not establish jump-point equipment or inter-system capability.
Atlas lists a 4.2-second standard spool and 7.6-second cooldown; Beacon lists 4.4 seconds and 11.9 seconds. Atlas also has the larger source speed parameter in this pair: 259,054,500 m/s versus 161,410,900 m/s. A Military label on Beacon does not make these fields larger or smaller by definition.
The source lists 0.007546 SCU per spool for Atlas and 0.01862 SCU for Beacon. Their raw per-metre fuel parameters are 7.546e-9 and 1.862e-8 respectively. Keep the per-spool quantity separate from the per-metre parameter. This lesson does not combine them with a tank, route or repeated stops to calculate fuel use.
In this captured subset Atlas has more favorable values for these selected fields. That is not evidence that it is universally better: fitment, current availability, unselected properties and actual travel conditions still matter. Source speed is not a measured door-to-door trip time; alignment, acceleration, leg length, obstructions and services are separate.
Both jump-limit fields are maximum-float placeholders, displayed as “Unspecified limit (sentinel)”. They do not mean unlimited fuel or unlimited range. Plan an actual return and refuel opportunity rather than dividing a tank by an unexplained parameter.
Use a familiar pair of reachable locations with known services. Record the starting drive, route, fuel indication and the stages you want to observe: preparing, ready, travel, arrival and readiness for another leg.
Expected result: Both attempts have the same stated route and a return/refuel plan.
If it did not work: If the starting fuel or route differs, record that difference. Do not attribute the entire trip-time difference to drive speed or buy a drive solely from its class label.
Control cards reuse the existing engineering and navigation lessons. Latest inspected defaults are 4.9 LIVE, compared with 4.10 PTU on 22 August 2026, not a 4.10.2 gameplay test. Your saved bindings take precedence. Suggest control corrections through this guide’s normal improvement and independent review actions.
Record the exact ship variant, current component name, relevant HUD readings and power allocation. Keep the original item available so you can reverse the change. Do not buy an item just because this lesson compares its size.
Confirm the current Vehicle Manager actually offers the drive for this ship. Keep the starting route and other fittings unchanged, and refuel through a confirmed service before attempting a controlled comparison.
SC Nomads comparison drill
Record your ship variant, fitted weapons, visible power allocations and healthy status. Keep the same view available for the next practice step.
Expected result: You have a reference to compare with a failure.
If it did not work: Do this while parked. If the screen is unfamiliar, ask the owner to identify one known component before changing anything.
mobiGlas > Vehicle Manager
At the location holding the ship and parts, open Vehicle Manager, select the stored ship and its intended slot, then inspect the offered compatible items. Apply the intended customization and recheck the slot.
Expected result: The intended component is fitted to the intended ship.
If it did not work: Check location, slot size and available item before replacing anything else. Do not assume a more expensive part fits.
Use the route’s next leg rather than assuming the final destination is a single direct jump. The reused navigation cards give the actual map, master-mode and quantum-operator inputs. Spooling, destination alignment and a ready-to-engage state are separate observations.
Record what the current HUD shows at each stage. Source spool time is not permission to press after counting to 4.2 or 4.4 seconds; wait for your own drive and alignment readiness.
mobiGlas > Map > search
Search its name and select the correct result. Compare the body and location names. Wheel zooms; left-drag rotates; right-drag pans.
Expected result: The selected place matches your written destination.
Selecting a place identifies it; the next action commits the route.
If it did not work: Similar names are not interchangeable. Recheck the result before plotting.
Map > Route to this Location
Choose Route to this Location. Read the right panel for Quantum Fuel and the number of legs.
Expected result: A plotted route and its requirements are visible.
Several legs mean several travel stages, not one uninterrupted journey.
If it did not work: No route? Check the selection and your ship context. Keep this separate from a drive that will not engage.
Flight - Movement > Cycle Master Mode (Long Press)
Read the current master mode. If it is SCM, hold B once and let the transition finish. If it already reads NAV, leave it there.
Expected result: The master-mode label reads NAV and the transition completes.
NAV prepares the ship for travel. Spooling is the drive preparing itself, not proof of a calibrated destination.
If it did not work: This input cycles modes. Holding it again can undo your choice. Inspect the current label before another input.
Vehicles - Seats and Operator Modes > Next Operator Mode
Click the wheel, rather than scrolling it, until the operator label reads QT. Read the label after each click.
Expected result: NAV and QT are selected.
QT exposes quantum-travel information. Changing the interface does not select your destination for you.
If it did not work: FLT is a different operator. If the quantum display is absent, inspect this label before trying the engage input.
QT interface > selected next-leg marker
Point the ship at the next leg and hold alignment while its calibration/readiness indication completes.
Expected result: The intended marker is aligned and the displayed travel conditions are ready.
Calibration concerns this destination. A spooled drive still needs a usable target.
If it did not work: Not ready? Read the displayed problem. Check alignment, fuel and drive state one at a time; repeated mode changes do not fix every cause.
Flight - Quantum Travel > Engage Quantum Drive (Hold)
With the intended target and ready state confirmed, hold left mouse. Watch for travel starting before assuming the command worked.
Expected result: The ship begins quantum travel toward the chosen leg.
The input requests departure. It cannot override a missing target, obstruction or fuel requirement.
If it did not work: No travel? Release the input and recheck readiness. If the binding differs, inspect Engage Quantum Drive (Hold), not a weapon-fire action.
After the selected leg, check the actual location, remaining fuel and the drive’s visible readiness or warning before another departure. A cooldown parameter is not a guarantee that the whole route can immediately continue.
Use a safe stop to write down each stage separately. Travel time observed over one route cannot establish maximum range or a universal speed curve. Refuel and return deliberately; a completed outbound leg is only half the exercise.
Landed pilot seat > Landing Services
Check both fuels again and compare the return route with what remains. Use available services before committing to the return.
Expected result: You have an identified route and enough usable fuel for it.
Arriving successfully does not prove you can make the return on the remaining fuel.
If it did not work: If services or time prevent the return, finish safely at the current port. Use the session/logout guide rather than treating force quit as a travel fix.
Map > recorded starting port
Select your starting port and repeat route, modes, readiness, departure and landing. Record the actual result and build alongside your notes.
Expected result: You can repeat the journey without guessing which stage comes next.
This small drill becomes a route you can use later for cargo, salvage, mining or meeting a friend.
If it did not work: If the return differs, record that difference rather than assuming the outward settings still apply.
The source spool time passed but the jump will not start.: Read the live alignment, destination, distance, obstruction, mode and fuel/drive warnings. A timer cannot override a missing readiness condition. Stop repeated inputs and resolve the named condition.
The speed value suggests a faster trip than I observed.: Compare like-for-like stages: preparation, actual travel and cooldown. Do not treat the speed parameter as an average over route planning, acceleration, arrival and refueling.
The reference says the jump limit is unspecified.: That is a sentinel value, not an unlimited-range perk. Use the actual fuel display, reachable map route and confirmed services; this guide supplies no tank-range estimate.
Keep the observations tied to the tested route and build. A short-hop routine and a long leg can emphasize different stages; this pair’s extracted values do not establish every drive’s performance or availability.
Do not save an experimental loadout automatically. The ASOP save step replaces the previous snapshot. Use it only after deciding which fitted configuration you want to retain; otherwise restore the original part first. No spare part, ammunition purchase or insurance save is performed by this website.
Record the game build, exact fitted item, power state, mode and observed result if you suggest an improvement. A friend can confirm the observation, but publication still uses the existing independent review process. These three examples do not cover every component or ship.
Return to a safe service location. If reverting, use the same Vehicle Manager customization step to fit the recorded original part, then inspect the slot again. Keep test notes separate from a claim that the part is universally better.
Expected result: The installed component matches your deliberate final choice.
If it did not work: If the expected item is missing, check the ship’s storage location and inventory. Do not overwrite the insurance snapshot merely to troubleshoot a missing part.
ASOP > retrieved ship > save icon
After retrieving and checking the configured ship, use the ASOP save icon. Inspect its confirmation. A new snapshot replaces the previous one.
Expected result: The intended configuration is the saved snapshot.
If it did not work: A later insured claim excludes ammunition and missiles. Plan a separate rearm; do not treat an insured ship as automatically stocked.
