Buy the right armor, gun and ammunition

Match your equipment to the trip and make sure the magazines really fit.

STEP 1 OF 11

Start with one complete, affordable kit

Suggested practice kit: your compatible undersuit and helmet, suitable torso/arm/leg protection, one weapon, matching magazines, a MedPen, food and water. Use the pictured P4-AR example if you have one. Our snapshot has no rifle vendor quote; when buying, choose a locally offered weapon whose matching ammunition you can also obtain.

  1. 1

Fit the prerequisites at Storage Access

    Separate controls: F

Storage Access > item > Equip

Find the undersuit, equip it, then add compatible armor and helmet. Use the item’s Equip action or drag it to its slot. Check the character after each change.

    What you should see

The pieces occupy the intended slots.

    That did not happen

Clothing can conflict with an undersuit. Missing leg armor can remove utility-item options. Resolve the rejected slot before buying duplicates.

Start with one complete, affordable kit

Use the pictured P4-AR example if you have one. Our snapshot has no rifle vendor quote; when buying, choose a locally offered weapon whose matching ammunition you can also obtain.

Fit the prerequisites at Storage Access

Separate controls: F

Storage Access > item > Equip

Find the undersuit, equip it, then add compatible armor and helmet. Use the item’s Equip action or drag it to its slot. Check the character after each change.

Expected result: The pieces occupy the intended slots.

If it did not work: Clothing can conflict with an undersuit. Missing leg armor can remove utility-item options. Resolve the rejected slot before buying duplicates.

Choose protection, storage and temperature together

Compare actual pieces. In the 4.10.2 extraction, ADP Core is heavy and Aril Core is medium, yet Aril has more internal storage. “Heavier” therefore does not settle every choice.

Compare two complete plans

SC Nomads preparation drill

List the body parts, usable magazine positions, internal storage and helmet in each plan. Choose the outfit that supports the trip and check how it feels during a short movement test.

Expected result: You know why you chose each piece.

If it did not work: If something prevents the intended action, fix that one requirement. Do not carry additional equipment merely because a larger pack exists.

Protection comparison
ADP Core records a 0.6 physical/energy damage multiplier; Aril Core records 0.7. These are component values, not a promise of whole-body damage reduction.
Storage comparison
ADP Core records 0.011 SCU internal capacity; Aril Core records 0.015 SCU. Backpack fit is a separate question.
Environment comparison
ADP Core records -75 to 105°C and Aril Core -61 to 91°C. Check every exposed/equipped part and the current environment; a torso range does not certify a whole outfit.

Buy the magazine for this exact rifle

The extracted P4-AR record links to P4-AR Magazine (40 cap). Its magazine port also requires the P4-AR family tag. Another 40-round magazine is not automatically compatible.

Check item, quantity and destination

Separate controls: F

Shop kiosk > item details > Choose Destination

Select the exact magazine. For a first practice trip, one loaded magazine plus two spare magazines is a suggested starting budget, not a mission guarantee. Check quantity, total and delivery destination before paying.

Expected result: The purchased item and destination match your plan.

If it did not work: A shop kiosk can list more items than its physical display. If the matching magazine is absent, change the plan before leaving services.

A dated shop lead
UEX lists the P4-AR magazine at Conscientious Objects, Levski, for 198 aUEC, version 4.10.2, updated 12 October 2026. This is a reported offer, not guaranteed current stock or proof the rifle is sold there. Check nearby services before planning a journey only for ammunition.

Draw the rifle and prove the reload

Do this where drawing a weapon is permitted. A spare in a station warehouse does not make you ready to reload in the field.

Select the primary weapon

Separate controls: 1

On Foot > Select Primary Weapon. Latest inspected CIG default: 4.9 LIVE, compared with 4.10 PTU. Your saved input may differ.

Draw the equipped primary weapon and identify it in hand.

Expected result: The intended rifle is ready.

If it did not work: Check its equipped slot and armistice restrictions if it does not draw.

Reload and inspect the count

Separate controls: Tap R

On Foot > Reload. Latest inspected CIG default: 4.9 LIVE, compared with 4.10 PTU. Your saved input may differ.

Read the current ammunition count, reload with a compatible carried magazine, then read the count again.

Expected result: A usable magazine is loaded.

If it did not work: Check the magazine name, remaining rounds and accessible storage before assuming a broken gun.

Field note: Different input? Open Options > Keybindings, choose your device, then Advanced Controls Customization. Read the named action before changing it. Submit corrections through this guide’s normal edit proposal.

Fit an attachment to its own port

The P4-AR extraction has optics and underbarrel ports accepting sizes 1 to 2. Its barrel port is size 2 and requires the appropriate ballistic barrel tags. “Size 2” alone does not prove fit.

Open weapon customization

Separate controls: Tap J

On Foot > Customize Weapon. Latest inspected CIG default: 4.9 LIVE, compared with 4.10 PTU. Your saved input may differ.

With the rifle equipped and an attachment carried, open customization. Select the relevant slot and a compatible available attachment, then inspect the fitted result.

Expected result: The chosen attachment appears on the intended port.

If it did not work: If it is absent, check port type, size, item tags and carried location. Keep the item in inventory instead of dropping it to experiment.

Optic
The sight mounted above the weapon. Read its own magnification and behavior before assuming it improves every encounter.
Barrel attachment
A muzzle component with its own compatibility and effects. Do not assume a suppressor removes every way another player can detect you.
Underbarrel
A separate attachment position. It is not interchangeable with an optic or muzzle slot.

Recognize the selected mode before firing

Use an appropriate practice environment and a clear target. Ask the crew to stay clear before testing. This is a controls drill, not advice to shoot strangers or station surfaces.

Read the firing mode

Separate controls: B

On Foot > Change Fire Mode. Latest inspected CIG default: 4.9 LIVE, compared with 4.10 PTU. Your saved input may differ.

Change mode once and read the resulting indicator. The P4-AR extracted modes include AUTO and SEMI.

Expected result: You can name the selected mode.

If it did not work: If the result differs, verify the actual weapon and current binding rather than repeatedly cycling.

Aim, then make one deliberate test

Separate controls: Right mouse

On Foot > Aim Down Sight. Latest inspected CIG default: 4.9 LIVE, compared with 4.10 PTU. Your saved input may differ.

Aim at the practice target. Use left mouse to fire, then stop and inspect the ammunition change and hit feedback.

Expected result: The sight view and firing result are distinguishable.

If it did not work: Check ammunition, selected mode, restrictions and controls separately if a shot does not occur.

Make a utility tool accessible before leaving storage

Source reference: CIG equipment and inventory articles updated 10 June 2026, checked 20 October 2026. This is an equipment-access drill, not a current-build tool-performance test. Use a tool you already own; this exercise does not establish attachment compatibility or cargo lifting capacity.

Recover a missing utility equip option

Separate controls: F

Storage Access > equipment > Weapons > Utility Item

At a Storage Access kiosk, inspect the equipped undersuit and leg armor first. Locate the tool, then use EQUIP or drag it to the intended available slot.

Expected result: The tool occupies its intended slot on the character.

If it did not work: If Utility Item is absent, fit leg armor first. If armor cannot equip, check the undersuit and conflicting clothing. Do not buy a duplicate to fix a missing option.

Prove that the item travelled with you

Separate controls: I

Personal Inventory > carried location and capacity

Close Storage Access, open Personal Inventory and inspect the selected carried container. Confirm the intended tool or spare remains there and read the capacity indicator.

Expected result: The item is carried, rather than merely listed in the port warehouse.

If it did not work: A rejected transfer can mean insufficient capacity. Make room and confirm the destination instead of assuming the item moved.

Separate an armistice restriction from missing equipment

Current restriction indicator and accessible storage

If a weapon cannot be readied at the port, read the restriction indicator. Keep it in suitable carried storage or an available ship rack until permitted use.

Expected result: You identify a restriction without firing or discarding equipment.

If it did not work: Do not use this as proof that every utility action is allowed. Check the actual item and local restriction; test operation only where permitted.

Leave a recoverable spare at a named port

Storage Access > local location label

Return optional spare equipment to local storage and record the port name before departure. Carry only the intended trip kit.

Expected result: The spare has a known storage location and the carried kit is deliberate.

If it did not work: Local storage does not follow you to another port. Ship destruction or death can lose carried equipment; do not promise a guaranteed recovery.

Field note: Custom inputs may differ. Confirm the tool and attachment with the existing gear records before using the appropriate mining, salvage or cargo lesson.

Buy a complete tool setup, not three similar-looking objects

Multi-tool source review: 21 October 2026. The catalogue keeps its dated 4.10.2-LIVE.12881860 records; the CIG cargo and developing-engineering guides explain different jobs. This preparation drill is not a current-build playtest.

Cargo handling needs Pyro RYT plus TruHold. A small repair setup needs Pyro RYT, Cambio-Lite SRT attachment and its small RMC canister. The standalone two-handed Cambio SRT is a separate purchase.

Write the job-specific shopping list

Exact item names in the equipment catalogue

Choose cargo handling or small field repair. For cargo, list the Pyro RYT and TruHold. For repair, list Pyro RYT, Cambio-Lite SRT Attachment and Cambio-Lite SRT Canister. Cross out items you already own.

Expected result: The list separates the host tool, attachment and material container.

If it did not work: Do not replace a missing attachment with a full-size tool or a similarly shaped battery. Check the exact item description first.

Check each kiosk selection before paying

Separate controls: F

Shop kiosk > selected item > delivery destination

Read the complete item name, quantity, displayed total and destination for each purchase. CIG suggests mining/equipment vendors, including Cubby Blast and Shubin, for the tool and tractor attachment; inspect the actual terminal instead of assuming stock.

Expected result: Every purchased line matches the intended job and an accessible destination.

If it did not work: The bundled snapshot has no canister or battery vendor quote. A missing quote is not proof an item cannot exist, but it is not a promised shop either. Change the plan before travelling only for that item.

Inspect the assembled tool in carried inventory

Separate controls: I

Personal Inventory > equipped tool and attachment

Use the existing utility-slot drill, then inspect the tool’s fitted attachment in the current equipment interface. Confirm the part is installed rather than merely stored beside it. Keep a removed attachment in storage.

Expected result: You can identify the base tool and the attachment that is actually fitted.

If it did not work: If a compatible item is not offered, check the exact family and selected storage location. The 4.10.2 advisory warns that dropped attachments can become unusable, so do not drop one to test fit.

Field note: Different input? Open Options > Keybindings, choose your device, then Advanced Controls Customization. Read the named action before changing it. Submit corrections through this guide’s normal edit proposal.

Check RMC contents separately from a battery or capacity number

The small Cambio-Lite canister description explicitly pairs it with Pyro RYT and Cambio-Lite. It stores RMC collected from scrap, which can supply repair. CIG says to bring full canisters for field repairs. A battery record is a different item.

The extraction lists maximum count 250 and initial capacity 0 for this canister. Those software fields are not proof that a purchased canister contains material, not a repair count, and not a measured physical volume. Read the actual item state.

Distinguish empty storage from repair material

Canister item state and equipped-tool supply feedback

Inspect the matching canister’s actual contents before leaving. Empty storage may be suitable for collecting RMC; a repair attempt needs material available. Check the canister itself, not only that an item icon exists.

Expected result: You know whether you are bringing storage to fill or material to spend.

If it did not work: If the interface does not show a usable material state, do not promise a repair. Obtain an appropriate supply at a shop or through authorized salvage, or choose a serviced return.

Check a supplied canister change without guessing

Separate controls: Tap R

On Foot > Reload. Latest inspected CIG default: 4.9 LIVE, compared with 4.10 PTU. Your saved input may differ.

Where tool use is permitted, read the current supply feedback, use the named Reload action with the matching carried supply, then read it again. This keycap is the dated general on-foot action, not proof that every tool build supports the same reload path.

Expected result: The fitted supply and its displayed state can be identified before attempting the job.

If it did not work: If no supported reload occurs, inspect the offered item/port actions and carried location. Do not buy another battery to solve an empty RMC container or keep repeating a key without a readback.

Verify one limited repair result

Authorized damaged target > repair mode > health readback

With the Cambio-Lite and material available, identify repair mode on the current tool. On an authorized damaged component or hull, compare condition before and after a short controlled attempt. End the attempt before changing targets or supplies.

Expected result: A condition change, or a specific lack of change, is recorded on the same target.

If it did not work: If mode, target permission or supply is unclear, stop. The developing engineering guide does not promise full restoration in the field; a tool animation alone is not evidence that the target was repaired.

The tool is present but the expected job does not work.: Check the fitted attachment, selected mode, local restriction, target permission and supply separately. A tractor head cannot stand in for Cambio-Lite repair.

A battery record or zero-looking indicator suggests another purchase.: The extracted Pyro battery capacity is not a verified endurance test. Identify the actual tool and material feedback first; no universal recharge procedure or battery requirement was verified here.

Carry usable spares, keep a recovery kit

SC Nomads practice: keep only this trip’s supplies on you. Leave a second modest kit at a useful station, and record its location in your loadout notes.

Check the carried container after leaving the kiosk

Separate controls: I

Personal Inventory

Inspect the containers actually on your character. Confirm spare magazines and essentials fit inside their capacity.

Expected result: Supplies remain visible without the local-storage screen.

If it did not work: A purchase left in another location’s storage is not available here. Transfer it deliberately instead of buying another copy.

Consolidate partial ammunition when safe

Keys together: Left Alt + 1

On Foot > Repool Ammunition. Latest inspected CIG default: 4.9 LIVE, compared with 4.10 PTU. Your saved input may differ.

When safely out of the inventory screen, use Repool Ammunition and compare the partial magazine counts afterward.

Expected result: You can identify which magazines are ready to use.

If it did not work: Repooling is not buying ammunition. If nothing changes, check compatible partial magazines and the current binding.

  • Suit and helmet equipped
  • Ammo compatibility tested
  • Supplies carried
  • Spare kit stored

Recognize a bug before sacrificing more gear

The 9 October 4.10.2 advisory warns that dropped attachments may become unusable. It also warns that overflowing items can vanish when swapping into smaller armor storage through looting. Keep attachments in inventory and clear space first.

Movement or breathing fails although the kit looks equipped.: CIG identifies a duplicate-helmet problem involving the helmet and hip slots. In safe conditions, inspect both and remove the duplicate.

A swapped item has disappeared.: Record the item, container, action and build before repeating the swap. Use the matching Issue Council report; a repeated purchase is not a diagnosis.
