MINING / VISUAL FIELD GUIDE

Your first mining Golem run

Keep personal supplies and collected ore separate. Rehearse a small mining batch before filling storage or paying for a refinery order.

STEP 1 OF 4

Separate your personal kit from collected ore

The mining Golem Q&A describes no walkable interior, an external personal locker near the cab, and two bespoke 16-SCU ore-only pods. They are not Prospector/MOLE pods or ordinary freight storage. These notes exclude the Golem OX.

The checked First Flight offer gives 30-day access to Golem, Fortune and Intrepid. It does not establish the activation clock or modification permissions. Inspect your actual entitlement and fit before buying equipment.

  1. 1

Identify the three things you must read

While safely parked, locate personal storage, ore-storage feedback and the actual mining controls. Keep a small recovery kit separate from the mining load.

    What you should see

You can explain where personal supplies go and which reading will confirm ore collection.

    That did not happen

If a control or storage location is unclear, ask an experienced operator to show that exact hull. Do not search for a generic engineering interior tour.

Identify the three things you must read

While safely parked, locate personal storage, ore-storage feedback and the actual mining controls. Keep a small recovery kit separate from the mining load.

Expected result: You can explain where personal supplies go and which reading will confirm ore collection.

If it did not work: If a control or storage location is unclear, ask an experienced operator to show that exact hull. Do not search for a generic engineering interior tour.

Read the fragment before committing storage

The historical Q&A offers no ore-venting shortcut. Choose carefully before extraction. SC Nomads exercise: scan a manageable target, identify the wanted material and collect a short test batch before committing the remaining storage.

Shared control cards use the site’s inspected defaults: 4.9 LIVE, compared with 4.10 PTU. Each control card links its dated evidence. These are not an SC Nomads gameplay test of 4.10.2. Check your saved bindings if a result differs; suggest corrections through this guide’s normal peer review.

Open your actual bindings if a key differs

Open Options, then Keybindings. Select Keyboard / Mouse and open Advanced Controls Customization. Check Vehicles - Mining and the seat/operator-mode actions.

Expected result: You can read the binding assigned to the action, rather than guessing from a video.

If it did not work: For a stick or throttle, select that device instead. Keep your existing custom layout; do not reset it just to follow this page.

Enter mining mode

Separate controls: M

Mining Mode Toggle

Once positioned safely in a mining-capable seat and SCM mode, tap M.

Expected result: Mining information appears. Find the mode name before operating the beam.

If it did not work: If you still see a different operator mode, check the seat, master mode and assigned mining-mode binding.

Start or stop the beam

Separate controls: LMB

Fire Mining Laser (Toggle)

A short click toggles the beam. The stop check is whether the beam actually disappears.

Expected result: The beam changes between on and off.

If it did not work: If your input acts differently, check Fire Mining Laser in your own profile. Do not rely on a low power number as proof the laser is off.

Change the laser task

Keys together: Left Alt + LMB

Switch Mining Laser (Toggle)

With the beam off, hold Left Alt and click LMB to change between fracture and extraction.

Expected result: The displayed task changes. Read it before firing.

If it did not work: Use the binding menu if nothing changes. Some older guides show RMB; this lesson uses the newer vehicle control.

Adjust power

Separate controls: Mouse wheel

Increase / Decrease Mining Laser Power

While operating the mining laser, scroll up to raise power and down to lower it.

Expected result: The laser power or throttle readout changes.

If it did not work: If the wheel changes another control, return to mining mode and check your mining power binding.

Field note: The full mining lesson explains rock energy, the working window, overcharge and extractable fragments. The station links open those exact steps; a beam being on is not proof of collection.

Verify a small collection, then the next handoff

The Q&A describes tractor-removable pods only after their ports are unlocked, without quick detachment. No pod-release key or replacement workflow is verified here. Learn that operation with the owner before depending on a pod exchange.

SC Nomads planning check: before paying a refinery order, identify a compatible collector and the quoted output volume. Do not assume mining storage or another starter’s hold can take the completed shipment.

Choose extraction

Keys together: Left Alt + LMB

Switch Mining Laser (Toggle)

With the beam off, select an extractable fragment and toggle to Extraction or Gather.

Expected result: The HUD names the collecting task.

If it did not work: If the fragment is still too large, return to Fracture and repeat the controlled process.

Collect and verify

Separate controls: LMB

Activate the beam on the selected piece. Watch the collection and cargo readings, then stop when finished.

Expected result: Material is collected and your cargo information changes.

If it did not work: If nothing moves, check the selected mode, target state and available capacity before firing again.

Write the collection plan before paying

At the offered refinery order, record input, method, fee, completion estimate and expected output. Identify the collection ship and check that output can be loaded there.

Expected result: You know which job remains after the ore leaves the mining ship.

If it did not work: If the collector or shipment fit is unproven, process a smaller trial or arrange help before committing more material.

Keep the first run small enough to explain

SC Nomads exercise: complete one controlled extraction and one processing/collection plan before increasing the batch. Keep module shopping separate until you understand the existing head and your temporary access. The ship’s caveats already cover its bespoke head and lack of ejection.

Record the whole result

Note material collected, storage change, the next processing step and the unresolved question from this run. If refining, keep the order reference for the later collection trip.

Expected result: Your next session starts with a known handoff, not only a memory of firing at a rock.

If it did not work: If there is no storage increase, return to the mining mode, target-state and capacity checks. If an order is not complete, do not treat it as collected.

  • Beam visibly stopped
  • Collected material identified
  • Processing or sale plan chosen
  • Compatible collection plan recorded
