Separate your flight fuel from the fuel you sell

Hydrogen supports normal maneuvering; Quantum Fuel supports quantum travel. Your tanker’s own reserves and its sale pods are separate checks. The current lesson follows the 4.8 refueling overhaul.

    What you should see

Your plan uses stock, not the maximum capacity printed on an empty pod.

    That did not happen

Do not accept a larger task simply because the tanker model is large. Choose a smaller requirement if the loaded stock cannot cover it.

What do these words mean?
Current / total
The first value is fuel present; the second is capacity. Neither is a promise that the current customer needs that much.
Operator mode
A working configuration for the vehicle. Refueling mode presents the equipment and interface needed for the connection.

Separate your flight fuel from the fuel you sell

Hydrogen supports normal maneuvering; Quantum Fuel supports quantum travel. Your tanker’s own reserves and its sale pods are separate checks. The current lesson follows the 4.8 refueling overhaul.

Service your own trip first

Separate controls: F1

Landed pilot seat > Landing Services

At a supported landing site, inspect your Hydrogen and Quantum Fuel needs. Select the services and confirm. Check the resulting fuel state before leaving.

Expected result: The tanker has its own outward and return allowance.

If it did not work: Topping up flight tanks is not proof the sale pods contain fuel. Read both before promising a delivery.

Read every sale pod

Tanker pod-management interface

Inspect fuel type and current/total quantity. Write down the quantities you can actually offer; compare them with the intended customer or contract.

Expected result: Your plan uses stock, not the maximum capacity printed on an empty pod.

If it did not work: Do not accept a larger task simply because the tanker model is large. Choose a smaller requirement if the loaded stock cannot cover it.

Current / total
The first value is fuel present; the second is capacity. Neither is a promise that the current customer needs that much.
Operator mode
A working configuration for the vehicle. Refueling mode presents the equipment and interface needed for the connection.

Write sale stock and flight reserve on separate lines

SC Nomads departure check: read each pod type and its displayed current/total amount. Copy the current amount with its unit, then record the tanker flight-fuel state separately. Check the receiver request against the sale stock; a full flight tank does not fill an empty sale pod.

Have the receiver read its Hydrogen and Quantum Fuel state before the trial. Agree the requested type, amount and affordable total. Choose a small first transfer whose result you can compare, rather than advertising the sum of empty pod capacities.

The 4.10.1 notes record a fix for incorrect contract fuel amounts and introductory contracts requesting both types. Read the actual accepted objective; an older mission description is not a reason to add a second fuel purchase.

  • Pod type and current stock recorded
  • Flight reserve recorded separately
  • Receiver need and units read back
  • One agreed initial purchase

Choose a small first customer

SC Nomads practice: complete one friend-to-friend transfer before offering a long paid trip. If flying alone as the tanker operator, start with an eligible single-recipient NPC job.

Read a United Wayfarers Club offer

Separate controls: F1

Contracts > offer details > Accept Offer

Check the recipient count, destination and required fuel. Accept only a task that matches your stock, then find it in Accepted.

Expected result: You can name the customer and what completes this job.

If it did not work: A multi-ship offer is several stops and supplies. Do not mistake your ability to reach the first target for enough fuel to finish the whole task.

Field note: Both roles can be performed by different players, while an AI recipient lets one human operate the tanker. A friend aboard is useful for lookout and communication; the pilot still needs to coordinate the connection.

Out of fuel? Request help as the receiving pilot

Receiver route, based on CIG’s 4.8 introduction. Service availability still needs current-build confirmation; this is not a live test.

Request the fuel you actually need

Separate controls: F1

mobiGlas > service-beacon interface

Open mobiGlas and choose a refueling request. Specify Hydrogen, Quantum Fuel or both from your ship’s readings. Confirm the request, then watch for the responding AI Starfarer.

Expected result: A responding tanker is identified; a submitted request alone is not its arrival.

If it did not work: If no refueling request is offered, seek player assistance rather than assuming an AI tanker was dispatched.

Receiver: request docking to the responding tanker

Separate controls: Hold T

Vehicles > Auto Targeting toggle. Latest inspected CIG default: 4.9 LIVE, compared with 4.10 PTU. Your saved input may differ.

Target the responding tanker and use the central docking action. Follow its alignment guidance. CIG documents that autodocking can work without fuel. Once connected, continue with “Check the quote, then follow the transfer” and “Close the connection before moving away” below.

Expected result: The connected state is confirmed before the fuel purchase.

If it did not work: If guidance or connection fails, stay coordinated and recheck the named docking binding. Do not assume that empty tanks prevent the documented autodocking path.

Deploy the nozzle before the approach

Rehearse this without a nearby customer. Observe the mode change before moving closer.

Enter Refueling operator mode

Separate controls: M

Vehicles > Toggle Refuel Operator Mode. Latest inspected CIG default: 4.9 LIVE, compared with 4.10 PTU. Your saved input may differ.

From the tanker pilot controls, toggle refueling mode and read the resulting HUD state. Confirm the nozzle is deployed before requesting a connection.

Expected result: Refueling controls replace the previous operating context.

If it did not work: If the ship performs another job, stop and inspect its mode and your seat. Check the named binding rather than repeatedly pressing M.

Assign who requests, who moves and who confirms connection

SC Nomads two-pilot rehearsal: the tanker pilot confirms the refueling HUD and deployed nozzle, then both pilots identify the selected ship. Agree which pilot sends the request and which follows the approach guidance. Call stop before either changes an uncertain approach.

Either player can initiate docking; contract AI does not initiate it. A solo human tanker operator can serve an AI recipient, but cannot also occupy a separate player receiving ship. A lookout helps communication and clearance; that does not add another connection or replace a pilot.

Use the original mode and docking cards below. Read the actual connected state before opening a purchase screen. A request message alone is not a connection. No distance, alignment tolerance or universal ship compatibility is established here.

Confirm the selected contact

Separate controls: Hold T

Vehicles > Auto Targeting toggle. Latest inspected CIG default: 4.9 LIVE, compared with 4.10 PTU. Your saved input may differ.

Face the intended receiver and inspect the selected target name. If automatic targeting is off, hold T once to enable it and inspect the selection again.

Expected result: The selected name matches the agreed recipient.

If it did not work: Do not send a request to a nearby bystander. T toggles auto-targeting; it is not a guaranteed direct reticle-lock command. Check your target selection controls if the wrong contact remains selected.

Request docking

Keys together: Right Alt + N

Flight > Docking (Initiate), tap combination. Latest inspected CIG default: 4.9 LIVE, compared with 4.10 PTU. Your saved input may differ.

Send the request to the selected recipient. Follow the alignment and movement guidance until the interface confirms connection.

Expected result: The ships are connected, not merely waiting on a request.

If it did not work: If alignment is unsafe, stop the approach. Check the recipient and deployed nozzle rather than repeatedly sending requests. Right Alt matters: this is not a landing-gear tap or an ATC request.

Field note: Different input? Open Options > Keybindings, choose your device, then Advanced Controls Customization. Read the named action before changing it. Submit corrections through this guide’s normal edit proposal.

Identify the recipient before requesting docking

Agree which player moves and which holds position. AI recipients do not initiate the request. Keep a clear approach and read the docking guidance instead of rushing toward the nozzle.

Read the quote aloud before the receiver confirms it

SC Nomads receiver drill: open Vehicle Maintenance, identify the fuel type and amount, and read the displayed total to the supplier. The supplier identifies the matching stocked pod and its open state. Confirm one agreed transaction, then tell the supplier which purchase state appeared.

The 4.8 flow starts fuel delivery after a purchase when the relevant supply pods are open. Compare the receiver fuel display with the starting record while the supplier watches stock and progress. Keep the displayed units; do not turn a percentage into an invented fuel volume.

If the quote does not match the agreed order, stop before confirmation. If the purchase was confirmed but fuel does not change, distinguish missing connection, purchase state and empty or closed supply. Repeating the purchase is not a diagnosis.

Supplier: open the stocked supply

Tanker pod management > relevant fuel pod

Select the stocked pod for the requested fuel and use its open control. Read its resulting state before asking the receiver to purchase.

Expected result: The required fuel has an open supply path.

If it did not work: An open empty pod cannot supply fuel. Check both its type and current amount; opening a Hydrogen pod does not supply Quantum Fuel.

Receiver: read the purchase before confirming

Separate controls: F1

mobiGlas > Vehicle Maintenance

Choose the required fuel and amount, then inspect the total before confirming. Watch the displayed payment and process state.

Expected result: The purchase is recognized and transfer begins.

If it did not work: No transfer? Check confirmed docking, the purchase and the supplier’s stocked open pods separately. Do not assume a button press paid for or delivered fuel.

  • Receiver type and amount match
  • Displayed total agreed
  • Supplier stock and open state checked
  • Purchase and actual fuel change distinguished

Check the quote, then follow the transfer

For a player customer, the receiver purchases fuel through Vehicle Maintenance. The supplier opens the relevant stocked pods. The current flow does not require an old manual-pressure balancing exercise.

  • Recipient confirmed
  • Amount and total read
  • Transfer observed
  • Completion verified before departure

Diagnose a stopped transfer by its stage

SC Nomads drill: have the receiver call “connected”, “purchase confirmed” and “fuel arriving”. Those are separate checkpoints.

Compare stock and progress

Active refueling status

Watch remaining stock, the process timeline and the receiver’s fuel change. If progress stops, identify the last checkpoint both pilots actually saw.

Expected result: Both pilots can distinguish waiting, transferring and finished.

If it did not work: Agree to pause before changing configuration. Repeating a purchase without identifying the failed stage makes the result harder to understand.

Nozzle and pod choice
The 4.8 overhaul makes flow rate depend on equipment; old advice about manually raising pressure until a nozzle breaks is obsolete.
Two fuel types
When both are requested, the documented order is Hydrogen followed by Quantum Fuel. Read the current stage before treating a waiting Quantum amount as a fault.

Abort an unsafe transfer and account for what actually arrived

The active 4.8 interface retains payment information, a process timeline and Abort. SC Nomads stopped-transfer drill: call the last state both pilots saw, read the current fuel and stock, and use the visible Abort control if the operation cannot continue safely. Observe the resulting process and connection state before attempting separation.

Compare the receiver starting and ending fuel readings in the same units. Record the displayed payment result and remaining pod stock separately. A quote is not a receipt, and a receipt is not proof the full requested quantity arrived. Do not promise that Abort refunds a particular amount.

If the interface still shows a connection, coordinate with the other pilot and use the original closeout guidance after the operation has stopped. Do not pull away with thrust or restart a purchase to try to force the ships apart. Preserve a matching build and failed-stage record for an Issue Council report.

Read the stopped operation before trying again

SC Nomads refueling check

Read the process state, receiver fuel, remaining sale stock and payment result. Agree whether the first operation has ended before either pilot requests another one.

Expected result: Both pilots can name the fuel actually observed and whether a connection remains.

If it did not work: If the interface does not establish a safe release, stop improvising. Keep the ships coordinated and report the specific stuck stage rather than applying old pressure or valve tutorials.

Close the connection before moving away

Finish the transaction first, then create separation. For a contract, the mission result is the receipt.

Undock after completion

Keys together: Right Alt + N

Ship-to-ship docking / undocking

After the process shows completion, use the docking toggle to disconnect. Confirm the connection is released before either pilot accelerates.

Expected result: Both ships can depart independently.

If it did not work: If the interface still shows an active operation, inspect its status or Abort control. Do not use thrust to tear away from an uncertain connection.

Reconcile this job before accepting another

Separate controls: F1

Contracts > Accepted / completion result

Check the outcome, then note remaining sale stock and your return reserve. For several recipients, identify the next unfinished objective.

Expected result: You know what was delivered and what remains.

If it did not work: A customer departing is not your only proof. Keep the contract and payment state when reporting a stalled result.

Verify release, the customer result and the next trip separately

SC Nomads departure check: read whether the connection is already released before using a docking toggle again. When release is needed, use the original closeout card; then have both pilots confirm they can depart independently. Payment, delivered fuel and released connection are three different checks.

For a contract, reopen its actual completion result. For several recipients, record which target remains unfinished and recalculate stock before moving to it. Check the tanker flight reserve again; the fuel left for sale is not a return-route allowance.

The current known-issues page describes delayed station Landing Services. That station workaround does not establish a ship-to-ship transfer fix. The 4.10.2 notes and issue review are source context, not an SC Nomads live refueling test; use the present interface if it differs from these 4.8-derived steps.

Before you commit

Some distress contracts are ambush variants. A fuel truck still needs an escape plan.

A tanker’s flight fuel and fuel available for sale are separate planning concerns. Reserve your own trip home, and do not advertise capacity you have not checked at the console.

M does not show refueling controls.: Check the occupied seat, refueling capability and Toggle Refuel Operator Mode binding. Mining and salvage also use context-sensitive modes.

I can buy fuel but none arrives.: The receiving and supplying roles have different checks. Verify the purchase state, connection and appropriate pod stock/open state. Use Abort if the operation cannot continue safely.

I cannot refuel two ships simultaneously.: Plan sequential connections. A second player can help with navigation and safety, but does not create another nozzle or guarantee parallel service.
