Solo use

Single-pilot recovery design; a towed ship is not covered by the SRV shields.

The 2019 design warns that towing reduces acceleration and fuel economy; escorts were recommended for hostile recovery. Current performance is not independently measured.

      Plan a useful session
      YOUR FIRST USEFUL SESSION

Rehearse one SRV capture, stop and safe release with the owner.

Move a consenting practice target to a usable handoff without confusing towing, passenger rescue and repair.

SC Nomads planning advice. The linked visual guides contain controls, illustrated steps and dated sources. Hull-specific facts: CIG ARGO SRV Q&A, 28 February 2019 historical design; checked 20 October 2026 , reviewed 20 October 2026; historical source, current controls must be checked.

      1. STEP 1

Agree custody and the finish before approaching

Use a friend’s replaceable empty ship for the first rehearsal. Read back the target, occupants, permission, a clear destination and the stop call. Confirm that the owner can use the ship or arrange help after release.

Ready when: Both pilots identify the same target and a practical end to the exercise.

        Why it matters

SC Nomads practice advice, not a paid-service promise. A tow neither transfers ownership nor repairs a ship. An apparently abandoned object is not consent, and a salvaging job has different authorization and destructive steps.

        Open the practical guide
      2. STEP 2

Check the actual target and tractor state

Follow the linked towing feedback and existing control cards. Ask the owner to verify a steady target and the current capture requirements, including shield state when the interface requires it. Inspect selected object and attachment feedback before motion.

Ready when: The intended hull is identified and the interface confirms the usable capture state.

        Why it matters

The 28 February 2019 Q&A describes a relatively still target with shields down. Treat it as historical design evidence, not a current mass table or instruction to disable every component. Do not turn off the rescuer’s protection by analogy.

        Open the practical guide
      3. STEP 3

Make a short move and prove a stop

In clear space, perform a small controlled movement and stop with the actual flight controls. Have the owner or lookout confirm separation, attachment and the target’s condition before extending the trip.

Ready when: Both hulls remain clear and you know whether this load can be controlled for the proposed route.

        Why it matters

CIG’s historical design warns that towing affects acceleration and fuel use and does not extend SRV shields over the load. If capture or clearance is lost, stop and locate the target before re-approaching. No current tow-size threshold, quantum route or jump-point passage is guaranteed.

        Open the practical guide
      4. STEP 4

Keep the power and people plan usable

Read actual tractor, power, fuel and ship-condition indications during the rehearsal. Decide whether to continue, stop in clear space or arrange another people pickup before supply or damage makes that choice for you.

Ready when: The pilot can state the next safe stop and the people are accounted for independently of the object.

        Why it matters

Do not copy a numerical power allocation or a combat loadout from another ship. A tractor effect is not a fuel reserve, a medical bed or an armed escort. Use the linked system and transport lessons for those separate responsibilities.

        Open the practical guide
      5. STEP 5

Release where the owner can actually finish

Inspect the receiving area, request the offered landing clearance where applicable and arrange a stationary release with room for both ships. Confirm release, target stability, owner access and any remaining repair or transport.

Ready when: The owner has a usable handoff and both crews know which unresolved work remains.

        Why it matters

A nearby station is not automatically a tow dock, repair bay or accepted storage point. Do not drag the load into an occupied hangar or assume docking compatibility. If the destination cannot accept the situation, agree an alternate before committing to the approach.

      PEOPLE AND PREPARATION

What changes when a friend joins?

      When you are alone

The official design describes a single-pilot recovery ship. You still need the target owner to confirm its state and a useful destination. Do not leave a moving tow unattended to investigate another ship; stop and account for both hulls first.

1 advertised crew. This is an advertised crew reference, not a solo recommendation or passenger-seat count.

Record my SRV setup and results

      With your crew

Keep one SRV pilot responsible for the beam and movement. A friend can watch clearance or remain with the cooperative target; an escort is a separate job. Name who takes control of the target after release, and how stranded occupants get home.

Find members interested in this ship

Search uses members’ shared ship and activity preferences. It does not promise an available pilot or access to their ship.

A tow needs a cooperative target and room to maneuverOfficial reference · Recovering another ship with an SRV

The design requires a sufficiently still target with shields down. Towing adds load, and the SRV’s shield does not cover the other ship.

      What helps

Agree the pickup, ask the target pilot to lower shields and fly gently. Use an escort for a dangerous recovery. Do not assume a planned feature works in the current patch.
