Understand piracy, boarding and recovery risks

Recognize the legal consequences and plan around uncertain ship states.

STEP 1 OF 7

Know the consequences before the encounter

Attacking or taking another player’s property can create CrimeStat and loss. Stolen goods may need different buyers. These are in-game risks, not a guarantee of profitable loot.

Our preparation suggestion is to practise movement and boarding with consenting friends first, using a ship they have authorized you to enter.

  1. 1

    Check the game-law consequences first

    Separate controls: F1

Read the current system legal code and your status. Prepare for the possibility of CrimeStat, restricted landing and loss of equipment before attempting hostile boarding.

    What you should see

You understand that the activity can change where you can safely return.

    That did not happen

Practice the physical boarding sequence with consenting friends first if you are still learning EVA, doors and cargo handling.

Check the game-law consequences first

Separate controls: F1

Read the current system legal code and your status. Prepare for the possibility of CrimeStat, restricted landing and loss of equipment before attempting hostile boarding.

Expected result: You understand that the activity can change where you can safely return.

If it did not work: Practice the physical boarding sequence with consenting friends first if you are still learning EVA, doors and cargo handling.

First boarding drill: use a cooperating stopped target

SC Nomads training exercise, source-reviewed 19 October 2026. Practise access and return before adding hostile action. The legal reference explains consequences; it is not a guarantee that every observed action is lawful or unnoticed.

Check the game-law consequences first

If it did not work: Practice the physical boarding sequence with consenting friends first if you are still learning EVA, doors and cargo handling.

Read the location and agree the exercise

SC Nomads practice checkpoint

Use the existing legal-code card, identify the actual system and agree the target ship, permitted entrance, pilot roles and a clear stop signal with the other crew.

Expected result: Both crews can name the same exercise and its stop condition.

If it did not work: No clear agreement or unknown legal context? Keep to a local cooperative rehearsal. Party membership is not permission to take equipment or cargo.

Keep a return operator and an affordable kit

SC Nomads practice checkpoint

Name who stays with transport and who crosses. Check worn suit/helmet and essential supplies through the existing equipment guide. Leave optional valuables out of the first attempt.

Expected result: The boarder has suitable worn gear and transport remains staffed.

If it did not work: A carried helmet is not an equipped one. If everyone leaves the return ship, reassign roles before attempting the crossing.

Separate ship control and boarding jobs

A pilot keeping position cannot simultaneously watch every interior corridor. Assign pilot, cover and boarding roles, plus a clear abort signal.

Check whether the target is stable and accessible before leaving your own ship. Keep a recovery pilot with transport rather than committing everyone to a hull you cannot operate.

Rehearse access on a cooperative target

With an agreed practice partner, stop both ships, confirm the approach and assign pilot, boarder and cargo handler. Cross only when the target and boarding route are stable.

Expected result: The boarder can reach the agreed entrance and return to transport.

If it did not work: If you cannot safely approach a cooperating target, do not add combat and moving hulls to the first lesson.

Prove the crossing and reverse it before moving cargo

Use your configured movement and interaction controls and the current visible entry prompt. This page supplies no guessed EVA keys, door-breach exploit or universal airlock sequence.

Cross one person and confirm arrival

SC Nomads practice checkpoint

With both pilots keeping the agreed setup stable, identify the entrance and the route back. Move one boarder, confirm they reached the intended interior and report before anyone else follows.

Expected result: The boarder can identify the entrance, occupied space and return direction.

If it did not work: If the hull moves, access is unclear or orientation is lost, stop the exercise and request pickup. Do not add cargo handling to an unproven crossing.

Return empty and account for the boarder

SC Nomads practice checkpoint

Reverse the same known route to transport. Have the return operator confirm the person is aboard before declaring the practice successful. Only then consider a separate cargo-transfer drill.

Expected result: The first round trip ends with the person back on their own transport.

If it did not work: A missing boarder calls for the agreed recovery plan. Repeatedly sending more people across does not establish a safe return route.

Identify what can actually be recovered

An apparently disabled ship is not necessarily safe or permanently intact. Assess the situation before moving cargo or crew aboard.

Count real recovered items and their storage needs. A valuable-looking cargo manifest is not a completed sale, and a boarded ship is not automatically a permanently owned asset.

Plan the cargo destination before taking it

Identify exactly what is being recovered, how it will fit through the opening and a buyer or use that accepts its ownership status. Keep an exit ship available.

Expected result: The operation has a physical transfer and a usable destination, not only possession of a box.

If it did not work: Taking control of a ship does not establish permanent ASOP ownership. Do not describe temporary access as a supported player-to-player ownership sale.

  • Roles assigned
  • Transport remains available
  • Target condition assessed
  • Recovery and sale plan

Treat cargo custody and ship ownership as separate facts

Possession, legal status and permanent account ownership are different. The existing cargo-destination card remains the starting point; nothing here claims a player-to-player permanent ASOP transfer.

Record one agreed item and its destination

SC Nomads practice checkpoint

For a cooperative transfer, name the actual item, its owner, its physical container and the intended receiving storage. Move only the agreed item and have the receiver identify it.

Expected result: Both crews know which object changed hands and where it is now.

If it did not work: An uncertain ownership status or a destination that cannot accept the item is a reason to stop. Do not promise that any buyer accepts every recovered object.

Close with people, custody and the next task

SC Nomads practice checkpoint

Count both crews, confirm the receiving inventory and state whether any further delivery or recovery remains. Record the result before ending the session.

Expected result: The exercise has a clear people count and an explicit item handoff.

If it did not work: Temporary access to a boarded ship does not add it to ASOP. Do not sell a temporary control state as permanent ownership or promise restoration after loss.

Before you commit

CIG’s current known issues include quantum-interdiction activation failures and missing console controls. Check the affected behavior before planning an interception around a device.

Follow the game’s conduct rules. This preparation guide does not endorse harassment, exploiting bugs or interference outside the game.
